Track Out Crafting

So now that I'm tracked out....it's time for some crafts!!! I started with a wedding present that Jeff and I received back in October. I was a bad crafter and completely forgot to take before pictures...Sorry! So we got a clock that looked something like the clock below but it was black and gold:
The only thing wrong with the clock is that we don't have any black in our house, so we couldn't find anywhere to put it up. So I painted the background creme, made some brown vinyl numbers, spraypainted the arms, and spray painted the outside of the clock. Presto-brown clock that matches our house now!

Next project was to paint and hang some very large frames for our living room. My mom got some frames from work that they were giving away. She lovingly gave them to me and I spray painted them brown. Here is the before picture of the HUGE wall in our living room:

Here it is after the frames are hung. Now they look really small becuase the wall is so massive, but trust me they are BIG-around 22x25 inches. Excues the mess...It was crafting time :)

When I went to Michael's to get some crafting supplies, they had TONS of picture frames on sale! I got these three frames to decorate our upstairs hallway

Craft #4: While Jeff and I were in Hawaii I grabbed some sand. I wanted to do something with it...but I wasn't sure what. So this track out I figured out what to do with it! I got a jar from Michaels (as well as 4 more for future trips). Then used my Cricut to cut out vinyl letters. It took me a while to get the right position for them so they looked centered, but I finally got it. Then I filled it with the sand, a seashell, and some lava rocks we picked up. Next I put a wallet sized picture of us from Hawaii in the back of the jar. It's now sitting on our mantle! I love this idea because whenever we take a new trip we can add another jar!

Craft #5: I wanted something to cover another blank wall in our house. I saw an idea on Pintrest for making picture coasters. I decided to change it a little and make wood block pictures:

I got wood blocks for $1 a piece at Michael's, some ribbon, three 4x5 pictures, and some Elmer's glue. I spray painted the blocks dark brown to match the rest of the house. While it was drying I cut the pictures into squares. Then I glued the pictures to the wood blocks (using a foam paint brush so there were no glue marks). Next I mixed some glue with water (a cheap Modge-Podge) and 'painted' it all over the top of the block. I did this 2 times just to make sure that the picture would stay on the wood. When this was completely dry (only about 30 minutes) I stapled ribbon to the back and tied a bow at the top. Really easy to do!

Hopefully I've inspired you a little to be crafty this summer! I'm sure there are more crafty projects to come! :)

Grandkids Make Life Grand

While perusing Pinterest one day I came across this really good idea:   I thought to myself that both my mom and Jeff's mom would really like this! So the crafting began. First I painted a wood board the colors that both ladies wanted. My mom wanted yellow and purple and Jeff's mom wanted tan and red. Next I played around until I found the right size for the letters. Then I cut them out of vinyl on my handy-dandy Cricut: I got some contact paper and lifted up the vinyl letters: Then I lined the letters up on the wood and attached: This is just me making sure that all of the edges are pushed down: And viola! The words are finished! To finish I added a ribbon on the back, ribbon flowers, and small clothes pins to hang pictures with. The final touch was adding pictures of the grandkids. After making this Jeff and I decided that we really liked it...so I might be making something similar for ourselves!

Paddling through Brunswick Stew

Last weekend was quite an exciting one for Jeff and me. Ashley and Neil came up Friday and stayed at our house that night. We love having friends come over, especially when we don't get to see them very often! The next morning we headed up to the Hester family farm that's in Virginia. The Hester clan was having a get-together because a family friend was teaching how to make Brunswick Stew. Now, when I think of Brunswick Stew I immediately think of Smithfield's. Probably because that's the only place I've actually eaten some...yes-I'm not a southerner. When we arrived at the house I was a little surprised to see this: Brunswick Stew cooking outside in a 5 gallon pot that was being stirred by Uncle Mac with a boat paddle. Ok-it's not really a boat paddle, but it sure resembles one! This was the true southern way to make Brunswick Stew, I was told by the other man in the picture (Mr. George). Mr. George also told me that he had a 30 gallon pot to make ...

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving started off with a sister, husbands, and dog walk before we stuffed ourselves silly! A Riegel girl tradition started many years ago after watching Winnie the Pooh. Pooh and his friends play a game where they all put a stick in the river and see whose stick comes out on the other side first. We've called it Pooh sticks since we started playing. I won!  Back at the parents house ready to eat: Naomi enjoyed her first Thanksgiving meal: After Naomi's nap we went to have Thanksgiving with Jeff's family: Naomi enjoyed playing will all of the kids And Uncle Nich: Brother time:
