More Yard Work

Here is part of our front yard.
As you can see, there are SO many bushes! Including the 'monkey grass' there are 25 in total! That is WAY too many! It was really taking over the front of the house instead of 'enhancing' it. So we decided to take a lot of them out. First we started with the 'monkey grass':

Then we cut down 5 of the bushes so we could pull them out easier. Then Jeff tied a chain around the bushes and his dad pulled them out with his truck. Because the bushes are so old, the roots were really deep. I'm so glad that Jeff's parents came up this weekend to help with this! Otherwise, our front yard would still be taken over by bushes!

After pulling out the bushes, we trimmed the remaining bushes down. It looks a little bare right now, but the bushes will grown in. The bottoms of them were covered by the previous bushes, so they look a little sad right now. We also moved the two little bushes on the right side to the front.

We bought some flowers from the farmer's market a while ago to fill in this place. We first laid them out to try to find an arrangement that would look good. This is what we came up with:

We also got some mulch and put that over this area, around some trees, and around our rose bushes in the back yard.

Thank you Dad, Mom, Reggie, and Jeff (and Reece) for helping out in the yard this weekend! We couldn't have finished without you! :)

Bunny

About a year ago I got a bunny as my classroom pet. I have wanted a Netherland Dwarf bunny for quite some time because of their cute ears and they stay small. Small bunny = perfect for classoom life. So after the beloved Max (my old guinea pig) left us, I knew now was the time to get a bunny! Thank goodness my sister Anna looks on Craigs List all the time for animals because she actually found a Netherland Dwarf Bunny that was up for adoption! YAY! I got her a couple of days after I found the post and was so excited. The kids decided to name her Maddi after a character in the book Fever 1793 . If you like historical fiction books,  you should check it out because it's really good! Little did I know that bunnies are full of personality! On her first day home she bit me 3 times and got me 2 times with her nails. Good thing is now she likes me (most of the time) and is much more friendly! She lets the kids in the class pet her and feed her. She also hops around the classroom....

Katie

The last three weeks have been a bit of a whilrwind for my family. We found out that my sister, Katie, had stage 3 ovarian cancer. She went into the ER because she was having pains in her abdomen, and they found a football sized tumor. My sister is such a strong woman and was walking around the day after her surgery that removed the tumor! Katie decided to have some fun with her hair before her chemo treatments start. It's a good thing that we have a sister that is a hairdresser, she can do so many fun things to hair. This is what Katie looked like to start: Here is Lauren applying bleach to Katie's hair: Here is Katie as a blonde....I never thought I'd see one of my sisters EVER with blonde hair. I like the analogy she used...she said she looked like Orlando Bloom in Lord of the Rings. :) All the fun colors for Katie's hair: The final product: Please pray for Katie as she starts her first chemo treatment today! Love you sister w...

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving started off with a sister, husbands, and dog walk before we stuffed ourselves silly! A Riegel girl tradition started many years ago after watching Winnie the Pooh. Pooh and his friends play a game where they all put a stick in the river and see whose stick comes out on the other side first. We've called it Pooh sticks since we started playing. I won!  Back at the parents house ready to eat: Naomi enjoyed her first Thanksgiving meal: After Naomi's nap we went to have Thanksgiving with Jeff's family: Naomi enjoyed playing will all of the kids And Uncle Nich: Brother time:
