Welcome

Hello friends and family! I've decided to start this blog becuse some of our friends and family live so far away. I figured this would be a great way to keep everyone updated with what's going on in our lives. So to start of this blogging adventure I'm going to introuduce you to both Jeff and myself and the start of our adventures together.

Jeff is a wonderful guy that God brought into my life about 3 years ago, with some help from some friends of ours. He grew up in Winston Salem, NC with his 2 older brothers and parents. Jeff went to High Point University and majored in Human Resources. After college he got a job and then continued his education at Pfieffer University. In July 2010 Jeff received a double masters in business administration and health administration. He is currently working at Value Options in Morresville, NC.

I grew up in Cary, NC with my 3 younger sisters and both my parents. Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be a teacher. You can ask Katie and Lauren about this, I used to play 'teacher' and they were the 'students'. God led me to UNCG where I received my bachelors degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Classical Studies (I LOVE Roman history!). Right after school I started working at this amazing school in Raleigh- Endeavor Charter School. I have been quite spoiled there (especially the two lovely ladies I work with)! I love my teaching job and couldn't imagine doing anything else. The picture below just shows how much fun I have teaching:

In February 2009 is when we first met. One of Jeff's good friends, Carrington Dahmer, invited Jeff to meet up with some friends at Frankie’s. Jennifer Hill (now Jennifer Dahmer), one of my friends, invited me to meet up at Frankie’s as well. Frankie’s is a fun park that has put-put, go cart racing, laser tag, and arcade games. As it turned out the only people that came to Frankie's were Jennifer, Carrington, myself, and Jeff. They played some put-put, laser tag, and arcade games. After Frankie’s everyone went out for some dinner at Chili's. A couple of months later we officially started dating.

On October 9, 2011 we officially tied-the-knot! Now because it was fall and I love pumpkins, we had a pumpkin wedding. I've put some highlight pictures below, but check out this link to see our wedding pictures taken by the lovely Betsy Coley: http://jeffalisonswedding.shutterfly.com/

We went to Hawaii for our honey moon. If you'd like to see some pictures visit: http://jeffalisonhawaii.shutterfly.com/

Feel free to check on back later, my plan is to keep this updated. Thanks for stopping by!

Grandkids Make Life Grand

While perusing Pinterest one day I came across this really good idea:   I thought to myself that both my mom and Jeff's mom would really like this! So the crafting began. First I painted a wood board the colors that both ladies wanted. My mom wanted yellow and purple and Jeff's mom wanted tan and red. Next I played around until I found the right size for the letters. Then I cut them out of vinyl on my handy-dandy Cricut: I got some contact paper and lifted up the vinyl letters: Then I lined the letters up on the wood and attached: This is just me making sure that all of the edges are pushed down: And viola! The words are finished! To finish I added a ribbon on the back, ribbon flowers, and small clothes pins to hang pictures with. The final touch was adding pictures of the grandkids. After making this Jeff and I decided that we really liked it...so I might be making something similar for ourselves!

Paddling through Brunswick Stew

Last weekend was quite an exciting one for Jeff and me. Ashley and Neil came up Friday and stayed at our house that night. We love having friends come over, especially when we don't get to see them very often! The next morning we headed up to the Hester family farm that's in Virginia. The Hester clan was having a get-together because a family friend was teaching how to make Brunswick Stew. Now, when I think of Brunswick Stew I immediately think of Smithfield's. Probably because that's the only place I've actually eaten some...yes-I'm not a southerner. When we arrived at the house I was a little surprised to see this: Brunswick Stew cooking outside in a 5 gallon pot that was being stirred by Uncle Mac with a boat paddle. Ok-it's not really a boat paddle, but it sure resembles one! This was the true southern way to make Brunswick Stew, I was told by the other man in the picture (Mr. George). Mr. George also told me that he had a 30 gallon pot to make ...

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving started off with a sister, husbands, and dog walk before we stuffed ourselves silly! A Riegel girl tradition started many years ago after watching Winnie the Pooh. Pooh and his friends play a game where they all put a stick in the river and see whose stick comes out on the other side first. We've called it Pooh sticks since we started playing. I won!  Back at the parents house ready to eat: Naomi enjoyed her first Thanksgiving meal: After Naomi's nap we went to have Thanksgiving with Jeff's family: Naomi enjoyed playing will all of the kids And Uncle Nich: Brother time:
