Naomi's Birthday Party

Naomi loves Dr. Seuss books so we decided to throw her a Dr. Seuss inspired first birthday party!

Thanks to a good friend we had a ball pit for the party. This was a BIG hit with the kids!

There is a Dr. Seuss birthday book! Who knew?! We had each party guest sign the book with a birthday message for Naomi.

I made a banner with Naomi's monthly baby pictures.

Thanks to another very artistic friend for helping me make the fish! I also made little Truffula trees to go on the tables.

Hop on some Pop...get it? I know; I'm corny :)

I made some cupcakes with cotton candy Truffula trees on top. They looked really pretty right after I made them. The humid air here in NC made the cotton candy slowly 'melt'. So hint to those of you who want to use cotton candy on cupcakes-wait until the very last second to put it out!

I also made a Dr. Seuss wreath out of an old Dr. Seuss book. I like it so much I don't want to get rid of it! I'll figure out how to use this again!

I also tried to theme the food after Dr. Seuss books. I used some Dr. Seuss bulletin board decorations to spice up the kitchen a little bit:

Thing 1 and thing 2 silverware. Thanks Lauren for helping me make these!

Then the guests started arriving!!

Grandma came with a fun Dr. Seuss inspired hat!

I got this fabulous birthday shirt from a college friend. You can go here to order from her. She can make almost any design! Thanks Jessalyn!

Jeff and I gave Naomi a baby doll with a pram for her birthday. She wanted to show this off during her party!

I of course had to make a sign for her high chair!

It was such a nice day out so people got to enjoy our deck:

I just want to say that I have a wonderful husband. 1-for letting me throw this party and let me craft so much for it and 2- for wearing a matching shirt with me. I am so blessed to have such a supportive husband!

Thanks to Aunt Katie we got some cute birthday pictures of Naomi in her birthday outfit:

Then Naomi got distracted and wanted to play soccer with the boys:

Thank you to all of our family and friends that made it for the party! It was so special to have you all there!

See- Wonderful husband and dad!

Next it was present time:

GG and GGpa gave Naomi a super soft bunny and she absolutely loved it!

Uncle Wil and Aunt Katie gave Naomi a book where she was the main character! Such a neat gift idea!

Naomi also got lots of cute clothes, toys, and gifts. Thank you all for spoiling our little girl on her first birthday!!

Next was cake time! I got Naomi into a diaper and put her in a baby pool (again-thanks to a friend for giving this to us!) so that the cake mess was contained!

She didn't know what to think at first but quickly realized what she could do!

Normally when Naomi eats food gets EVERYWHERE and I do mean everywhere! In her hair, on her face, on her feet (don't ask me how)! But she decided to eat this cake so daintily. Aunt Katie took matters into her own hands to get Naomi a little messier:

Cake clean up:

Katie and Naomi up to no good!

After all of this excitement Naomi just snuggled with people:

Mrs. Dana, Naomi's nanny, and her family got to come to the party too!

Snuggling with Pop-pop

I don't know if you can tell, but there is a stuffed Cat-in-the-hat under Naomi:

My mom and dad got Dr. Seuss t-shirts for the party. My dad's says: Sam I Am's Restaurant-serving Green Eggs and Ham. My mom's shirt had a bunch of Dr.Seuss characters on it. Such fun grandparents!

We of course had to get a picture with Granddaddy too:

I'm still in shock that our little girl is one! Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate Naomi's first birthday! You are all such a blessing in our lives!

Grandkids Make Life Grand

While perusing Pinterest one day I came across this really good idea:   I thought to myself that both my mom and Jeff's mom would really like this! So the crafting began. First I painted a wood board the colors that both ladies wanted. My mom wanted yellow and purple and Jeff's mom wanted tan and red. Next I played around until I found the right size for the letters. Then I cut them out of vinyl on my handy-dandy Cricut: I got some contact paper and lifted up the vinyl letters: Then I lined the letters up on the wood and attached: This is just me making sure that all of the edges are pushed down: And viola! The words are finished! To finish I added a ribbon on the back, ribbon flowers, and small clothes pins to hang pictures with. The final touch was adding pictures of the grandkids. After making this Jeff and I decided that we really liked it...so I might be making something similar for ourselves!

Paddling through Brunswick Stew

Last weekend was quite an exciting one for Jeff and me. Ashley and Neil came up Friday and stayed at our house that night. We love having friends come over, especially when we don't get to see them very often! The next morning we headed up to the Hester family farm that's in Virginia. The Hester clan was having a get-together because a family friend was teaching how to make Brunswick Stew. Now, when I think of Brunswick Stew I immediately think of Smithfield's. Probably because that's the only place I've actually eaten some...yes-I'm not a southerner. When we arrived at the house I was a little surprised to see this: Brunswick Stew cooking outside in a 5 gallon pot that was being stirred by Uncle Mac with a boat paddle. Ok-it's not really a boat paddle, but it sure resembles one! This was the true southern way to make Brunswick Stew, I was told by the other man in the picture (Mr. George). Mr. George also told me that he had a 30 gallon pot to make ...

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving started off with a sister, husbands, and dog walk before we stuffed ourselves silly! A Riegel girl tradition started many years ago after watching Winnie the Pooh. Pooh and his friends play a game where they all put a stick in the river and see whose stick comes out on the other side first. We've called it Pooh sticks since we started playing. I won!  Back at the parents house ready to eat: Naomi enjoyed her first Thanksgiving meal: After Naomi's nap we went to have Thanksgiving with Jeff's family: Naomi enjoyed playing will all of the kids And Uncle Nich: Brother time:
