Dad's birthday

My dad's birthday was last weekend. I love getting to celebrate birthdays when the whole family is together. My mom planned for us to all meet at his favorite restaurant, Enrigo (which is located in Waverly Place). If you haven't been....GO NOW! Seriously. Most of you know that I'm a spoiled Italian daughter. My dad constantly cooks delicious Italian meals from scratch. That's right ladies and gentlemen-he hand makes pasta, sausage, meatballs, ravioli, tortellini, and much more! To say the least I'm an Italian food snob. How can you not be with my dad cooking all the time?

So, back to the point. We went out for lunch to celebrate my wonderful father. Here are some pictures of the appetizers to make your mouth water:

Prosciutto, cheese, and fried dough

Stuffed Mushrooms

Fried Shrimp and Zucchini

I forgot to take pictures of the actual main course because I was so excited. It included some gnocchi, ravioli, and some other type of yummy pasta. By this point I was completely stuffed to the brim. People in my family had literally unbuttoned their pants just to eat more! The chef then came out to ask if we wanted dessert or a meat dish. We all groaned in pain because we knew if she brought something else out, no matter how full we were, we would still eat it! We convinced her that some lemon sorbet would be a good end to the meal:
There is a sage leaf on the top, which sounds a little funny, but it was really delicious with the lemon flavor!

We started to relax because we thought we were finished eating. Suddenly we heard people singing happy birthday in Italian. The chef and the owner were carrying a plate full of dessert toward my dad singing.

Of course we had to eat the dessert. Needless to say, but we all waddled out of the restaurant ready for a nap! Happy birthday Dad!

Bunny

About a year ago I got a bunny as my classroom pet. I have wanted a Netherland Dwarf bunny for quite some time because of their cute ears and they stay small. Small bunny = perfect for classoom life. So after the beloved Max (my old guinea pig) left us, I knew now was the time to get a bunny! Thank goodness my sister Anna looks on Craigs List all the time for animals because she actually found a Netherland Dwarf Bunny that was up for adoption! YAY! I got her a couple of days after I found the post and was so excited. The kids decided to name her Maddi after a character in the book Fever 1793 . If you like historical fiction books,  you should check it out because it's really good! Little did I know that bunnies are full of personality! On her first day home she bit me 3 times and got me 2 times with her nails. Good thing is now she likes me (most of the time) and is much more friendly! She lets the kids in the class pet her and feed her. She also hops around the classroom....

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving started off with a sister, husbands, and dog walk before we stuffed ourselves silly! A Riegel girl tradition started many years ago after watching Winnie the Pooh. Pooh and his friends play a game where they all put a stick in the river and see whose stick comes out on the other side first. We've called it Pooh sticks since we started playing. I won!  Back at the parents house ready to eat: Naomi enjoyed her first Thanksgiving meal: After Naomi's nap we went to have Thanksgiving with Jeff's family: Naomi enjoyed playing will all of the kids And Uncle Nich: Brother time:

Katie

The last three weeks have been a bit of a whilrwind for my family. We found out that my sister, Katie, had stage 3 ovarian cancer. She went into the ER because she was having pains in her abdomen, and they found a football sized tumor. My sister is such a strong woman and was walking around the day after her surgery that removed the tumor! Katie decided to have some fun with her hair before her chemo treatments start. It's a good thing that we have a sister that is a hairdresser, she can do so many fun things to hair. This is what Katie looked like to start: Here is Lauren applying bleach to Katie's hair: Here is Katie as a blonde....I never thought I'd see one of my sisters EVER with blonde hair. I like the analogy she used...she said she looked like Orlando Bloom in Lord of the Rings. :) All the fun colors for Katie's hair: The final product: Please pray for Katie as she starts her first chemo treatment today! Love you sister w...
