Hallway Decoration

I wanted a place to display some of Noami's artwork since she is now making some! I scoured Pinterest and found a couple ideas, but I thought picture frames would be the best for our little hallway. I took some picture frames and crosses I already had laying around the house and tried to get a good layout and then decided on colors. I like using post-it notes to help with the colors:

Then I started hanging the frames on the wall. As you can see, I changed the layout a little bit because I changed my mind while hanging...go figure!

For three of the frames I took out the glass piece and laid laminated burlap
against the back part. I then hot glued little clothes pins to hold Naomi's work:

All in all I really like how it turned out!

I was also finally able to hang some more family pictures on our family tree:

It's starting to look more complete! I am so excited that it is summer track-out so I'll have more time for crafting!!

  1. Great ideas. You honor each other and family. The family tree display is such a wonderful way to help Naomi know and appreciate how she is grounded in family. We have read that children who understand this and who make treasured memories with family can make better choices when making important character decisions. Naomi can think, "We are the Hesters, We don't do that!"

Bunny

About a year ago I got a bunny as my classroom pet. I have wanted a Netherland Dwarf bunny for quite some time because of their cute ears and they stay small. Small bunny = perfect for classoom life. So after the beloved Max (my old guinea pig) left us, I knew now was the time to get a bunny! Thank goodness my sister Anna looks on Craigs List all the time for animals because she actually found a Netherland Dwarf Bunny that was up for adoption! YAY! I got her a couple of days after I found the post and was so excited. The kids decided to name her Maddi after a character in the book Fever 1793 . If you like historical fiction books,  you should check it out because it's really good! Little did I know that bunnies are full of personality! On her first day home she bit me 3 times and got me 2 times with her nails. Good thing is now she likes me (most of the time) and is much more friendly! She lets the kids in the class pet her and feed her. She also hops around the classroom....

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving started off with a sister, husbands, and dog walk before we stuffed ourselves silly! A Riegel girl tradition started many years ago after watching Winnie the Pooh. Pooh and his friends play a game where they all put a stick in the river and see whose stick comes out on the other side first. We've called it Pooh sticks since we started playing. I won!  Back at the parents house ready to eat: Naomi enjoyed her first Thanksgiving meal: After Naomi's nap we went to have Thanksgiving with Jeff's family: Naomi enjoyed playing will all of the kids And Uncle Nich: Brother time:

Katie

The last three weeks have been a bit of a whilrwind for my family. We found out that my sister, Katie, had stage 3 ovarian cancer. She went into the ER because she was having pains in her abdomen, and they found a football sized tumor. My sister is such a strong woman and was walking around the day after her surgery that removed the tumor! Katie decided to have some fun with her hair before her chemo treatments start. It's a good thing that we have a sister that is a hairdresser, she can do so many fun things to hair. This is what Katie looked like to start: Here is Lauren applying bleach to Katie's hair: Here is Katie as a blonde....I never thought I'd see one of my sisters EVER with blonde hair. I like the analogy she used...she said she looked like Orlando Bloom in Lord of the Rings. :) All the fun colors for Katie's hair: The final product: Please pray for Katie as she starts her first chemo treatment today! Love you sister w...
