Yucky Gold

So the start of track-out for me means CRAFT TIME! My first big project was to fix our front entry way. Here is a before shot:

As you can see, gold fixtures around the glass door, dirty concrete, and no flowers!

Here is a close up of the door before:
No offense to those of you who like gold, I just really don't like it at all! My goal was to update it just a little.

This is a good close up of the concrete before:

Both Jeff and I went to work! Jeff borrowed a power-washer and scoured the ground. I took apart the door and spray painted it with silver paint:

You can see a big difference here!

Pulling the door apart was EASY! I actually did it when Jeff was at work one day. Putting it back together was SO much more difficult. It took both Jeff and I to put it back together and it took about 3 times longer to put it back than it was to take it apart. But all of the effort was worth it because here is what it looks like now:

Remember these from my father-in-law's house?

First I took the bottom pieces of wood off. Then I put stairway edgers around the bottom to make them more sturdy and caulked the edges. Next I put a hook on each and spray painted them black:
These will hold signs near our front door for different seasons/holidays. I haven't completed any signs, but I'll post pictures when I do!

Here is the finished product:

Here is a side-by-side view of the changes:

No more dirty concrete, no more gold, flowers, and a new welcoming sign. Yay for time to be crafty!

Bunny

About a year ago I got a bunny as my classroom pet. I have wanted a Netherland Dwarf bunny for quite some time because of their cute ears and they stay small. Small bunny = perfect for classoom life. So after the beloved Max (my old guinea pig) left us, I knew now was the time to get a bunny! Thank goodness my sister Anna looks on Craigs List all the time for animals because she actually found a Netherland Dwarf Bunny that was up for adoption! YAY! I got her a couple of days after I found the post and was so excited. The kids decided to name her Maddi after a character in the book Fever 1793 . If you like historical fiction books,  you should check it out because it's really good! Little did I know that bunnies are full of personality! On her first day home she bit me 3 times and got me 2 times with her nails. Good thing is now she likes me (most of the time) and is much more friendly! She lets the kids in the class pet her and feed her. She also hops around the classroom....

Katie

The last three weeks have been a bit of a whilrwind for my family. We found out that my sister, Katie, had stage 3 ovarian cancer. She went into the ER because she was having pains in her abdomen, and they found a football sized tumor. My sister is such a strong woman and was walking around the day after her surgery that removed the tumor! Katie decided to have some fun with her hair before her chemo treatments start. It's a good thing that we have a sister that is a hairdresser, she can do so many fun things to hair. This is what Katie looked like to start: Here is Lauren applying bleach to Katie's hair: Here is Katie as a blonde....I never thought I'd see one of my sisters EVER with blonde hair. I like the analogy she used...she said she looked like Orlando Bloom in Lord of the Rings. :) All the fun colors for Katie's hair: The final product: Please pray for Katie as she starts her first chemo treatment today! Love you sister w...

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving started off with a sister, husbands, and dog walk before we stuffed ourselves silly! A Riegel girl tradition started many years ago after watching Winnie the Pooh. Pooh and his friends play a game where they all put a stick in the river and see whose stick comes out on the other side first. We've called it Pooh sticks since we started playing. I won!  Back at the parents house ready to eat: Naomi enjoyed her first Thanksgiving meal: After Naomi's nap we went to have Thanksgiving with Jeff's family: Naomi enjoyed playing will all of the kids And Uncle Nich: Brother time:
